University of Missouri (MU) is a premium public university in the American state of Missouri. Also known as Mizzou, this research university was founded in 1839 in Columbia. MU is acclaimed to be the first institute of higher education for the general public on the west part of Mississippi River. Being the largest university in the state of Missouri, Mizzou has 20 academic colleges that accommodate over 33,800 students in the undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The Columbia campus is also the flagship institute of the University of Missouri System. It is also an institute full of prestige, being one of the 34 public universities that are members of the Association of American Universities.
Spread over 1,372 acres, the university has state of the art facilities and a botanical garden. Mizzou is also well known to be the first university in the world to have its own school of journalism. University of Missouri Research Reactor is renowned to be the most powerful research reactor in any university world over. Some of the most sought after areas of study at the university include law, engineering, medicine, agriculture and veterinary medicine. Besides studies, University of Missouri’s NCAA Division I team, Tigers is also one of the top notch teams in the league.
